Never too soon...

There are so many things to do at a wedding that it is never too soon to start checking off the to do list.

Are you working on the costume?  How about the hairstyling?  The deadline is August 31st which is just weeks away now.

As an IADR member your character will need to be registered before submitting.
As a Non-Member there will be an entry fee to be paid before submitting in your doll for judging.
Don't forget there is a new Category added for the Master Level.  Can you believe that there is only one show left to participate in if you are also thinking about entering in for our Year End Show?  One of the requirements for the Year End is to have participated in one of this year's IADR shows prior to the Year End competition.
Can't wait as the excitement builds to see who will be at the Fairy Wedding and their Guests.

Come join me as I walk the path that Diana Noch's dollmaking journey took me on.  Her creativity and joy in dollmaking was a delight to discover.

Her diamond in the rough tip also reveals how out of the box we doll makers think when we are looking for tools and techniques to make our dolls better.

So pull up that chair and your favorite brew and join us while Diana and I talk about the variety of mediums that can be used for making dolls enjoying our passion for doll making.

What A Blast!!!

It is a blast to see all the changes that have been happening with the International-Art-Doll-Registry as we grow and share our love of dollmaking.  The 4th of July here in the USA is our day of celebration as we came into being a nation.  Wishing everyone a Happy July 4th and please be safe *smiling*.
But let's not stop there.  It has been a birthing process since assuming the roll of CDO of IADR and like all new nations (organizations) hopefully you are excited about some of the changes too.
The major one especially happening now is the new MASTERS category being added to the Juried Shows.  This is a great opportunity to have past winners of the Professional level still share their talents and inspiration for upcoming doll members.  Plus it is always fun to see how Artists interpret their art from one of our themes.  The Fairy Wedding and the Guests who Attend show is really the sky is the limit to your imagination in regards to what one might see at this type of wedding *smiling*.  Masters will also be able to still participate in the Year End Show as long as they participate in one of this year's jury shows as well.
Recently we discovered that IADR is one of the few juried shows that offer cash prizes for winning.  If you ever wondered if the membership dues were worth it... then win in a jury show category.  Your winnings would have paid your IADR membership back to you plus a little extra.  The other change is inviting non-member the opportunity to compete as well.  As a non-member you are gambling your entry fee against the odds of winning.  Everyone has the chance - as well as learning from the judges with their evaluations that are supplied to every entry.
To learn more about the upcoming juried shows click here and for the submission requirements click here.  Deadline for a submission to the Fairy Wedding Show is August 31st.

Happily Ever After...

June is typically the month for weddings and at the IADR (International Art Doll Registry) we aren't any different.

The next Juried Show is Fairy Weddings and the Guests Who Attend.  I can't wait to see the delightful characters that will be created for this event.

Plus this is the first time ever that we are opening the juried shows to non-IADR participants to have the opportunity for them to also compete.

Any medium such as polymer, paperclay, wax, fiberart, needlefelting or porcelain are all acceptable as long as the character is a one of a kind and not made from commercial molds.
Did you know that the winners in the variety of categories of skills that we offer also have the opportunity to win a cash prize?  More of this information and our  requirements are available for those wishing to participate by clicking this link www.international-art-doll-registry.com/juried-show-submission.html

NEW NEW NEW -  Master (category):  A Master is an artist who has won the Professional level award in an IADR Juried Show or an artist who teaches doll making and/or sells more than 6 dolls per year.  Masters are for the level where their skill isn't judged as much as do they meet the theme.  As such, MASTERS can enter again even if they have won a previous MASTER award.  They will also still be considered for the Year End Awards as long as they participate in one other show during the year.

The deadline and other information regarding the Jury Show can also be seen in our new IADR Art Doll Magazine.  Check out the previous blog for the link to this free magazine.

Happily Ever After's do come true and sometimes  they start with just a little love and inspiration.

Lazy Days of Summer... NOT!!!

With June's arrival, bring the first days of summer, it has been nice so far.  We here in Montana (USA) are just now getting into the 80 degree Fahrenheit weather.  So yes, bring out the bathing suits and the sun glasses, it is official - Summer has arrived.  Until that is... when I look at my calendar.

There are just a couple of things happening in June so mark your calendar as to not miss out on them.
For June, I'll be talking with Diana Noch from Oregon for our Conversation with a Dollmaker.  I am looking forward to that as we will be talking about some alternative mediums that are used for dollmaking.
Then there is the Shylock Dollmaking Group meeting on June 20th (a Tuesday),  as we are looking into costuming and inspirations for Christmas characters which has us putting on our thinking caps for the Christmas IADR event.

Talking about events, then there is the upcoming IADR Juried Show - Fairy Weddings and the Guests Who Attend.  This is really an open opportunity to explore your imagination.  This will also be the first event that will be open to non-members of IADR.  More about that information coming out in our new magazine.

Yes, the IADR Art Doll Magazine will be coming out this month as well with some great articles, interviews, and even a tutorial.  No lazy days for us here at IADR *smiling*.

Conversation with Dollmaker - Jerry Knegtel

Setting out on an adventure to follow a dream in my beautiful caravan is the type of experience I enjoyed when visiting with Jerry Knegtel.
I may have traveled (via  Zoom) to the exciting place of Belgium, but that was only a small part of the journey.
She weaved a story full of fairies that made me feel I had entered her magical land.  They surround her but Jerry was more than willing to share how they come alive through her and become a part of our world seen through her eyes.
Also a lovely tribute to Deb Wood shows how important IADR is to up and coming artists or even those that want to be challenged through our juried shows.  Just like the vagabonds that travel in their caravan creating their family unit, so can the many members in IADR be a part of that artistic family of support and encouragement for each other.
To learn the impact of creating an art doll for someone thereby creating a very healing process for them, is a story that truly touches the heart.  Pull up your chair, grab your favorite brew... don't forget the tissue and join myself and Jerry as we talk about a favorite pastime of ours... dolls.

A New Face...

We have a new face on the block!  Well actually it is under the tutorial section of the IADR (International Art Doll Registry) website.

Thank you Amanda Parkinson for sharing your time and talent with the members of IADR.  It is coming together like this that helps all of us grow.

We all struggle with our sculpting and one never knows what will give us the "Ahha!" moment.  A different way of seeing things or just a different way of saying the same thing over again.

Check out the great pictures she supplied as they are very helpful and the instructions easy to follow too.
Remember any member of the IADR may submit tutorials for the group.  Think about it and just contact Lesley to be able to get them placed on the website.

Doll Conversation with Bambi Lynn...

4/25/2023

We are all so unique and different but the one thing we have in common is our love of dolls.  This flight takes me to my own country of the USA with a stop in Alabama to visit Bambi Lynn.  I haven't traveled there yet physically but I was able to enjoy learning more about it through Bambi's eyes.  It is certainly now on my wish list of places to go.

Come... bring your favorite beverage and learn about the magical land that Bambi  has created and now sharing with her dolls, the Turfs.  Discover more about the goddess Arduinna of the Ardennes Forest and what influence this had on Bambi's creative adventure.
Bambi is so great about creating magical portals because I know the time we spent talking  just magically flew by.  Now I feel I made another new friend through my doll making adventures.
