Deadline May 7th, 2025
Sign up for one of the many workshops that are available at the IADR Convention as deadlines are fast approaching.  The instructors have materials to prep and gather to get ready for the classes.  If you would like to attend the workshop but want to wait to pay for it on the day that is happening, that is fine.  Though still send the IADR an email stating that is what you like to do so these classes can prepare.  Email [email protected] with Workshop in the subject line.
Also check out this month's podcast on our YouTube channel as Bambi & I talk about putting all your eggs in one basket.  Or in other words are you spreading your marketing tools to diversify in our changing social media platforms.

We Are...

Yes, we are getting the word out and I do mean WE. The IADR may begin with an "I" but it takes all of us together to make the IADR the great organization that it is.

I can't do it alone and no one should.  We are a community of doll artists and creators that are making a difference.  The IADR Art Doll convention in Italy is just one of those examples.

Take a look at some of these amazing artists that will be sharing their talents with us at our event.   This post is on our YouTube channel but you can also see it on our Instagram account and will soon be up on our Bluesky account as well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWisPtet2AA

We also created an event on Facebook about the convention.  If you would like to help support the event (even if you can't attend this year), why not mark yourself "interested" to help our efforts and maybe even share the event for others to see:

Welcome to another new member, Kristiina Meiner.  She is from Estonia which amazes me that the IADR can not only be truly international but also how important keeping the love of dollmaking thriving is to all of us.

In this time of global upheaval and chaos, Art truly is the connection to the heart and soul that connects us all.
As we are working on the Shine the Light convention, remember to shine "your" light by being involved with  the IADR through the juried shows, submitting ideas and articles for the magazine, or simply showing your latest creation that you have made.  There are many ways to shine your light but if you still are not sure how, simply drop me an email at [email protected].

2025 Convention Jury Show Theme...

4/15/2025

Picture
I was recently asked about what is the theme for the juried show for the IADR Art Doll Convention in Florence, Italy this coming May.

The theme is Shine the Light!

I was inspired with this theme after visiting Florence for the first time last year.  When one thinks of all the many famous artists who have lived or come to Florence to learn about the Arts, the theme illuminates their collective energy.
After all, one purpose of an artist is to educate, illuminate, and inspire passion or pain.  To expand the awareness and awaken the emotion of the observer to the Art.
By definition, to Illuminate is to 'make (something) visible or bright by shining light on it'.  Art helps to clarify or explain and enlighten spiritually or intellectually.
So what types of entries would qualify for the theme?  One example is Patrizia Cozzo's Fairy with Lantern and why she was selected to represent our convention.  The IADR appreciates Patrizia sharing her art with us and inspiration.  Simply holding a light source is one way to Shine the Light.
Another way to interpreted the theme is to shine the light on history and how it was shaped by someone that influenced you or inspired you.

Or, shine your own light and influence the world with a thought or idea that you want to illuminate - like Love or Greed for example.  These are just some of the different ways you can Shine the Light.

The IADR juried event is open to all sculptors and makers of one-of-a-kind handmade sculpted art dolls - no matter the medium.  The Jury Show Competition will consists of two categories - Sculpted Artworks and Fiber Arts.

Sculptured Artworks of all kinds are welcome in clay, paper-clay figurative sculpture, porcelain, polymer, or other like mediums.

Fiber Arts is a separate category from the other mediums entries and will include all competition entries of wool/needlefelting and cloth dolls

Each category will have five separate skill levels being Novice, Intermediate, Advance, Professional, and Master.  There will be an award opportunity for each level when meeting the competition requirement.
The submission fee for one doll entry for the jury show is included with a convention registration otherwise a fee of 30 Euro will be charged.

Each person is authorized only one entry per category (Sculpted Art or Fiber Art) for the juried show competition.

To enter a doll in the competition, it must be delivered to the registration table at the scheduled convention time and picked up after the award presentation during the Banquet Dinner.  If you have any questions please refer to the Juried Show link for the Convention at https://www.international-art-doll-registry.com/convention-juried-show-submission.html or email to [email protected].
The Florentine...
We are also currently in The Florentine's online classified section.  We are working with them to see about an article for the convention and their May printed edition of the newspaper.  More about that as it develops.  To see the AD click the link https://www.theflorentine.net/classifieds.

The IADR is There...

The IADR (International-Art-Doll-Registry) is a fabulous collection of dollmakers and artists.  But we are more than that... we are also a community. A community that helps support the education in dollmaking and the opportunity for sales of our art.
In that way the IADR is there...
We are there with the IADR website and the opportunity to have your own gallery space through the Artist's Studio page.   Through your Artist's Studio page you have the ability to tell a potential customer about your dolls as well as display many different views of your dolls to help the customer understand better the process you used to create that work of art.
The IADR is also there to help promote your work through the IADR Art Doll magazine.  As a member you can share ideas, articles, and tutorials to other artists.  You can also have your work featured in a 'Do What You Love' page or part of the Facebook collage.  All that advertising is free to IADR members as part of the perk of being a member as well as receiving the magazine at no additional cost.
The IADR is there in the social media platforms.  The IADR in Facebook will like and comment on other member's post, especially if you tag me in them.  That is especially true for Instagram as the new algorithm is now focusing more on the "Share" aspect.  I do need to be tagged if you want me to share your reels which again that is the new focus Instagram is also pushing.  Have you figured out how to add a click-able link to your reels?  If you haven't and would like to know how, then email me at [email protected] and I'll try to help you through that process.  All those little steps are what helps make a potential sale.
Also the IADR is looking to grow through getting established in new areas like in the Bluesky social media.  I do believe that will be the future direction social media will be heading and we have built an IADR custom feed for your use.
We are also growing with our first IADR Art Doll convention in May, 2025.  There is still time to sign up to register for the event if you like to take in the whole experience.  Otherwise, check out the workshops which are a great educational event - or - would you like an opportunity to sell your work at the open to the public Sales Event?  If you have any question regarding any of those areas then contact Adelaide Santini, the Italian representative for the convention or email me at [email protected].

The results are in for our first juried show of the year!  Thank you to all those that entered to make this a special show indeed and congratulations to the winners.
The event prize for the Winter Blues is a free year membership to the IADR in each category and skill level.  You can see the winners and honorary winners on our award page.  Honorary winners are those who competed in a skill level where they were the only applicant.  We recognize them for entering the event but a prize is not awarded when no competition is available for that skill level.
The IADR also created a video showcasing all the entries and I hope you enjoy viewing it as it was fun creating.  The video can be viewed on our YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN_h63LiMDo

Catching up...

Yes, it seems like when one loses an hour with daylight savings time, it feels like catching up until we (in the USA) get in sync with the rest of the world.  Apparently, that will happen at the end of the month.
In the meantime, have you seen the "Catch of the Day" by Mark Dennis?  It is going to be awesome to see it for real at our first art doll convention in May 2025.  Those that registered to attend the event will actually have a chance to take this "Catch of the Day" home for their very own.

Remember, only those that are registered for the IADR Convention receive a chance at winning this grand prize!
When you register to attend the IADR Convention you receive the option to have a sales table in the open-to- the-public Sales Rooms, one meal ticket for the Gala Dinner which includes beverage, one free doll entry to the Shine the Light juried Doll competition, and A Chance (ticket) at capturing the "Catch of the Day" for your very own.

Also, Mark Dennis, will be the Guest Speaker for the Gala Dinner (as well as offering a workshop at the convention).  What a great way to meet the artist that created the Catch of the Day!  To register for the IADR Art Doll Convention for May 15-17th, 2025 in Florence, Italy click here.

Yes, only three days left to enter your art doll for the first juried show of 2025.  This is also the first time Fiber Art Dolls have their own category too!

Remember IADR members to get your doll registered first as you need that information for your juried show entry.  The pressure is on as there are only three days left until the 10 PM MST on Friday, March 7th, 2025's Deadline.

Let's see those Winter theme creations or something in blue like even my blue suede shoes.  After all, my blue suede shoes are all that I need to fight off the Winter Blues.
Just like that, it is easy to enter the Winter Blue show and take a chance on winning a year membership with the IADR.  Sounds like a win/win situation to me *smiling*.
See our newest Video on Youtube!  It showcases all the doll artists participating in the IADR Art Doll convention and show their classes they will be offering as well.  The video is in English and Italian too!  Share the link and let's get the word out as May 15th - 17th, 2025 is just around the corner.

For those paying for workshops and/or registration for the convention with Paypal, we have established a process to help with the Paypal Conversion Fee.  If paying in euros we can invoice you to avoid having to pay the conversion to US dollars.  This option is available to those not wanting to use a credit card.  If choosing this option, please contact me at [email protected] and I will send you an invoice.

Bambi & I are talking Blueskies... actually we are talking about Bluesky, the social media app and comparing it with Facebook, Instagram, and X (although I still call it Twitter).

Are you signed up on Bluesky yet?  Are you using the IADR Feed for one of your options?  Learn more about it on our podcast at:

Annnnddd the Winter Blue Instagram Winner 2025 is... drum roll please ---
Alena Cvetkovski!
It was very close which is why I also would like to mention and thank Kathryn Arms (IADR member) and Jan Adamson (non-member) who were very supportive of the game.

All the likes & comments were appreciated and they do help grow the followers to the IADR Instagram account.

There are only two weeks left... are you going to be in the Winter Blue Juried Show?  Sign up now as to not miss the March 7th, 2025 Deadline.
This juried show is exciting as this will be our first event with the Fiber Art Category, so make sure you mark the right category for your piece to enter.  Also, don't forget to register your doll first as you will need the registration number on the form.

To Purchase - click here.
Here is another way that the IADR can be supported.

Through the purchase of this Limited Edition IADR mini-tote bag.  It is available to both IADR members and Non-members.  Those that are registered to attend the 2025 IADR Art Doll Convention will already be receiving one of these commemorative bags (with charms) with their convention registration.

For those not attending but would still like to be a part of the event, the purchase of this bag is just one of those ways.  The reusable mini-tote bag is made from a non-woven polypropylene material that is 10.5 wide by 9 inches tall by 4.5 inches deep which includes a large open main compartment with a 4.5 inch gusset and 13 inch handles.

It also includes a bag charm holder with the 2025 year charm and a supporter charm.  Members of the IADR will also receive the additional Artist (brushes) charm to add to their charm holder.

The $20.00 USD price does include the shipping but at this time we are only able to ship within the USA.

We are in our last week of the Winter Blue Instagram game.  I wish to thank all the Sponsors that shared their talents with us with their gifts and I especially want to thank all those that played the game for their continued support and comments.
But we aren't done yet!  Now is the time to be looking at that Deadline of March 7th to enter the Winter Blue Jury Show.  Don't forget to get your doll registered before entering as that is part of the process for IADR members.

This will also be our first event with both a category for Sculpture Art and Fabric Art.  Looking forward to seeing the entries.  Remember that even as an IADR member you have the opportunity to win a free year membership to the IADR.
We are also counting down the time to our IADR Art Doll Convention in Florence, Italy.  March 1st is the deadline to sign up for the last discounted rate on the registration fee.  After that - it will be full price.

Check out Loredana Salvo, Elisabetta Bernardi, & Alexandra Sandu in the newest video announcing their workshops.

Sign up now for their workshops to guarantee your spot as there is limited seating.  Also don't forget to see the other workshops by visiting our website at:
https://www.international-art-doll-registry.com/convention-workshops.html.
Picture
An Up-Date to the Artist's Studio Page and a special thanks to Alexandra Sandu for asking if we can do it.

Yes, from now on... (since I just learned how to do it on our website) when you submit your doll to be added to your Artist Studio page, it will now be featured at the top of your page instead of the bottom.

This way when anyone comes to look at your page they will now see your most recent submission first.

Keep in mind if you would like to see something on the IADR website or possibly a change, start out by simply asking.  What works for one often benefits us all.  You can always contact us at:
