A New Look for the Awards...

We have an upcoming Juried Show that will draw to close the year 2022.  With this event I hope to share some of the changes and hopefully inspire the imagination with some new events planned for the 2023 year.

One of the first changes is reluctantly the statuette trophy will no longer be available.  With the rising cost for product and shipping, this was no longer viable.  So, for the 2022 Juried Show, the new awards will also apply as we move forward.  What are they and what's 'new'?  Let me tell you!

On the website is the page to our
Events for 2023 that will make it also easier to refresh or review as we update the Events information that will be coming up.
In the December 2022 newsletter I will send out some show theme ideas for you to vote on as I would like to offer two (2) Juried Shows each year for members only.  The first show's deadline will be April 30th, 2023, (theme to be announced after the voting), and the second show's deadline will be August 31st, 2023.  There will be four Best of Show award opportunities at each of these two shows.  The categories will be Novice, Intermediate, Advanced and Professional.  When there are two or more entries for a category, then there will be the opportunity for awards.  If there is only one entry for any given category, then by definition, no competition exists, and the entry moves to an Honorary Award.  All award winners from each of the events will be posted on the IADR Award Winners page on the website also!
What the winners will receive is a choice of: (1) A physical Embossed Award Certificate only (which includes the cost of shipping) sent to them... or (2) A downloadable digital Award Certificate (suitable for framing) with a $75 (USD) cash award placed in a PayPal account... or (3) A downloadable digital Award Certificate with a $75 (USD) gift card at the online store of the winner's choice.  Honorary Awards will receive a downloadable digital Award Certificate (suitable for framing) and the judges commentaries with scoring.

Then we will have our third big event for the year!  This will be the Public Christmas Event with a deadline of October 1st, 2023.  There will be no cash award for this event but that is all explained in an earlier blog (click here to read the blog)  This event will be all about who will be the center point of the marketing event through the People's Choice selection.  We are planning on expanding the voting pool by setting up a public voting link you can share with family, friends, and even your favorite cousin to encourage them to come vote for their favorite doll.  This opportunity will give each entry more exposure if all of the membership will share the voting link! This will also expand the viewing and hopefully encourage those to come to the event.  (And to our Judges - this will be an event you can join in as well since the judging on this event will be done by the People's Choice *smiling*).  This event will be open to all mediums of dollmaking as long as it is a One-Of-A-Kind and the artist is a member of IADR.
Then to wrap up 2023 will be the final show which will be our End of Year Show.  Now this is going to be a little different.  This will be scheduled for a December 31st, 2023 deadline with the winners being announced in January, 2024.  Since this is a juried show on an artist's accumulated work, the first requirement is that of the three (3) dolls an artist is submitting, one (1) of them has to have been in one of the three previous events announced for the year.  Meaning that one of the three submitted dolls has to have been in either in the April show, the August show, or the Public Christmas Event.  The other two (2) dolls to showcase the artist's work must have been made in the current year since this is hopefully a YEAR-end type of award.  Also, if one of the artdolls is a new piece done for the End of Year award, it will be judged with the accumulated work as the End of Year Show will not have any Best of Show awards.
The End of Year Awards will be awarded in the categories of Best Artist of the Year,  Best Doll of the Year, and Rising Star of the Year.  Each category winner will receive a downloadable Certificate (suitable for framing) and a cash award of $150.00 (USD) to be placed in a PayPal account or as a Gift Certificate with a online store of the winner's choice.  All award winners from each of the events will be posted on the IADR Award Winners page on the website also!
I hope to entice you to join in our events this coming year, but please keep in mind that anyone that enters these events will have the opportunity to have their submission receive the comments and suggestions from the judges.  This is a valuable tool to help give the artist a different point of view to grow and learn.  IADR is a group of artists who are here to help support and encourage each other to be the best we can be.  These shows are just one way of doing that.

May miss the boat but...

Well I might have missed the boat this year with all the transitions and trying to find my way around the revamped IADR (International Art Doll Registry) but I do like to think ahead.

What am I talking about?  A Christmas Selling Event for 2023.  After all, Christmas and dolls go together like chocolate and ice cream.  As I was contemplating this, I thought why not make it a little fun in the process too? Something that inspires "Christmas Magical Memories" for you.
I will set up a hidden page on the website that would go activate the day the Doll Show/Sale begins.  On this page would be one (1) doll that was made throughout the year that captures the magical memories of Christmas for you.  It can be Santa Claus, faeries, elves, little girls with dolls or even something like the "Nightmare Before Christmas" as long as there isn't gore nor copyright infringements.
As always, the doll should be registered (after all why not? *smiling*) and this will be for members only.  The deadline for the Christmas theme doll/character event would be October 1st 2023. Because then we would have a People's Choice selection of the doll that best represents the theme between October 1st & October 15th.  The first place winner would be the icon for the event, be on the website page, and on all posts from IADR promoting the event on Facebook and banner of the public IADR group page.  That's a lot of exposure! (*smiling*)  Second and Third place winners would cover the other two IADR banners.
On the page of the Event will be the one image of the doll/character for each person of their participating entry.  Under the entry would be a direct link to the doll if you are selling it. The other link would be to your Artist's Studio page so any buyer can see more of your work.  Or buy more there if you have set up your dolls for sale in your studio.

Place winners would also be the first listings in the gallery.  Others that participate would be listed by drawing their name out of a hat so it would be random.

Anyone that wants to participate but not create a Christmas theme doll would be listed after the participates.

Picture
It won't be required that the doll/character be a recent work but then why wouldn't you want to challenge yourself to something new?  This is about getting a selling event going for November 2023 with a little Christmas magic thrown in.  Discover what inspires you this year and challenges you or brings out your inner child.  Then let's capture it to bring it into the new year and be ready for a great doll event toward this time next year.

Let's jump in...

Let's jump in and get The Artist's Studio pages set up so they can start working for you!

There are two(2) ways I can currently add your doll artwork to your page.  They are:

1. When you register your doll there is a spot toward the bottom of the registry form that you fill in that tells us that we can add your doll to your page in The Artist's Studio gallery. Keep in mind that dolls registered can only be viewed on the public side of the Artist's Studio page by giving me permission to add them.  Otherwise, the registered doll is on the membership side only and can only be seen by members on the Doll Registry page. This option is if you choose your doll to be part of your gallery and not for sale.(Any doll status can always be changed too!)
2. The second way is for you to use the Studio Submissions page in the members only section.  This is how you can create your own store or album by adding as many dolls as you want in your personal Artist's Studio page. This is a free service to you as an active member of IADR.
Simply fill out the form (see the example of the form below). The information about the doll will all be placed with the picture of the doll in your Artist's Studio gallery.  By clicking on the image of the doll it will either show as a gallery piece, or take you to the link you have included on the form such as your website if you are wanting to sell it, or it will open up your email link for a potential customer to be able to contact you.
Picture
Yes, you can link your art doll to any site - this can be your website, an Etsy shop or Ebay.  We might have to work a few to see if your Facebook store link will work (as we have not been able to test that yet), but if it does, we will link to there too!
Why post your doll here???  Because with the social media of Facebook & Twitter you shouldn't have all your eggs in one basket in case something should happen.  Have you ever been locked out of Facebook?  I know I have and there isn't a thing you can do about it.  Having another website location with your dolls builds a stronger foundation and as an active member you will always have the option to list your dolls on the IADR website.
Picture
Why are we offering to do this?  Because I think as a group we should help support each other to be seen.  If you don't have a website, then this is for you!  Even if you have a Facebook store this is an option for you as one doesn't really know what direction they will be heading in the future, and if you have a website (or any other type of store), then this is also for you. The more we can post in social media the more we can be seen!  So if saying "I can also be seen at IADR..." gives you just one more way of getting out there with a fresh post for networking.
As I said above, you can list as many dolls you want... after all, this is your shop.  Again, there is no charge for this service.  This is one of the perks of IADR membership and up to you whether you want to use it or not.
Also, a third option that will be coming out soon for your page in The Artist's Studio - the ability to list your doll for sale with the IADR!  Details are being finalized, but there will be only a 10% fee to cover the handling and credit card charges for the transactions (this will include collecting the sales taxes - if applicable). You, as the seller, will be responsible for doing the actual shipping of the doll when sold - but the IADR will collect the shipping fees and include them in your payment (and shipping fees will not be subject to the 10% fee).
Picture
This option is under construction but I hope to have it up and running soon.  At this time, this third option will only be available to members located and selling in the United States as we are not established with taxes and other requirements needed for selling in other countries.  But who knows, maybe in the future as we keep growing!

Artist's Studio... What is it???

What is the Artist's Studio?  It is your own personal gallery and shop.  Why?  Because as a gallery, you have an option to show a bigger picture and tell more about your piece in the Studio than what was previously allowed in the Registry.

Also I feel that the copyright information (which is part of the reason you use the IADR) should be more private than being open to the public.  That is why the Registry is only available for viewing and using as a member, while the Artist's Studio is for the public to see your work.
How does the Artist's Studio work?  Let me tell you. *smiling*.
On the page of the Artist's Studio is a picture to represent each member of the IADR.  I  used the doll picture you submitted for the website to create this feature for you, but the image does not need to stay this image.  You simply let me know what you want to replace it with, send me the image and I'll change the image.  It can be an image of you, the artist, your favorite doll or even a logo of your business.  Whatever you want it to be to represent your work.
Once you have the image established that you want to use for your Artist's Studio page (by sending it to me and I have it setup the way you want), then click the image and now you enter your gallery/shop.  This is where all your artwork will be placed for viewing and possible sales.  I will explain more about that in the next blog.  Step one here though is to let me know what you would like for your image on your Studio Page.  You can email me a picture at IADRegistry@outlook.com or send me an image through messenger.
