Also a lovely tribute to Deb Wood shows how important IADR is to up and coming artists or even those that want to be challenged through our juried shows. Just like the vagabonds that travel in their caravan creating their family unit, so can the many members in IADR be a part of that artistic family of support and encouragement for each other. To learn the impact of creating an art doll for someone thereby creating a very healing process for them, is a story that truly touches the heart. Pull up your chair, grab your favorite brew... don't forget the tissue and join myself and Jerry as we talk about a favorite pastime of ours... dolls.

Check out the great pictures she supplied as they are very helpful and the instructions easy to follow too. Remember any member of the IADR may submit tutorials for the group. Think about it and just contact Lesley to be able to get them placed on the website.
2023 April-Rainy Days Juried Show...
We are all so unique and different but the one thing we have in common is our love of dolls. This flight takes me to my own country of the USA with a stop in Alabama to visit Bambi Lynn. I haven't traveled there yet physically but I was able to enjoy learning more about it through Bambi's eyes. It is certainly now on my wish list of places to go.
Bambi is so great about creating magical portals because I know the time we spent talking just magically flew by. Now I feel I made another new friend through my doll making adventures.
Beside the winner receiving a cash prize, all entries receive a Judge's critique. Even if everyone is not a winner of the big prize, everyone who enters still wins because each entry becomes a learning lesson. You also don't only receive the opinion of one judge but several as we have a panel of judges that look at each entry. Each evaluation is valuable as the opinions of the judges come from many years of dollmaking and our judges skill levels are beyond the professional level. Each entry is also anonymous - especially as our members have kept their entries secret and avoided social media sharing (until after the winners are announced). That is the awesomeness of our group that likes to play fair and be judged by their talent and work. I am counting down the days until I can share the fantastic artwork of the member artists of the IADR who joined in this Rainy Days juried show.
We meet only once a month so mark your calendar for the next one coming up will be on April 25th. We are still working on the best day of the week to meet since this is a new opportunity for IADR members but the time is pretty set. After all, we are reaching around the world in different time zones just to hang out together. *smiling* For the month of April I am going to be sharing how a 2-Dimensional (2D) artist expanded my "eye" to becoming a 3-Dimensional (3D) artist and ended up becoming a painter in clay. What is a 2D artist? Two-dimensional art refers to any form of visual art that exists in two dimensions. Meaning you can only see two sides in viewing it such as drawings, paintings, prints, and photographs. 3D art is defined as art with all the dimensions of height, width, and depth. Unlike 2D art, it occupies greater physical space and can be viewed and interpreted from all sides and angles such as sculptures. It does take skill, a passion to learn, and a desire to create to go from 2D to 3D as it changes one's perspectives.
Also, don't forget to submit your entry in for the Registry before submitting for the juried show. This is because your Registration number is required on the Juried Show Submission form. If you want to add your entries to your Artist Studio page you can still add it but I will keep hidden those submissions until after judging. If you have any questions regarding what can be submitted - check out our Juried Show Submission page on our website under the Members' Only section.
There are some awesome tutorials that have been created by Deb Woods such as Wings for our Fae folk as well as some Face tutorials that are just too good to pass up. Phyllis Morrow and Renata Jansen have provided very informative tutorials for creating eyes as well. If all you need is just a quick reference for body sizing or charts, I grouped those all together under Anatomy Reference. The Classes section is for tutorials that are for instruction on a character that might involve a larger PDF or several downloads. There really is so much information available to a member and it's all for FREE (with your paid membership of course)!
There is no infringement of your source information, we just offer another way for you to be found here on our website. So check out this treasure trove of knowledge and keep on checking back as I am still in the process of loading up more tutorials. Enjoy!
I am having a blast traveling around the world visiting with our IADR (International Art Doll Registry) members. I have been to England, Italy, and now to the far reaches of Australia.
So bring your favorite drink and join us. Mine will be tea (*smiling) as Amanda and I talk about our favorite thing... Dollmaking.
The time is planned for 12:30 pm MST. For those in the USA, it will move forward as planned. For those in Italy or Australia (for example) you might need to confirm the time difference as we will be actually a hour earlier for you (or not...). Hope this blurp gets past the pixies so that we can all get together - and don't forget to check our chat line for the link post. See you there. Also I'm glad this crazy time zone change happened after my Conversation with the Dollmaker for the month of March as I enjoyed my lovely time with Amanda Parkinson. I am in the process of updating and editing that video and it will be out shortly. Keep your eyes open as Amanda and I share our love of dollmaking through her art.
