Conversation with Dollmaker Amanda Parkinson

3/21/2023

I am having a blast traveling around the world visiting with our IADR (International Art Doll Registry) members.  I have been to England, Italy, and now to the far reaches of Australia.
The artwork of Amanda Parkinson is exciting and I certainly love hearing and seeing it through her eyes.

Besides thinking outside the box in creativity, it is also amazing how, as dollmakers, we often are required to figure out other ways in order to create our dolls.  We may not get the exact thing we wanted for our piece but we don't let that stop us. We simply move forward.
So bring your favorite drink and join us.  Mine will be tea (*smiling) as Amanda and I talk about our favorite thing... Dollmaking.

Avoid getting Pix-a-lated!!!

What is pix-a-lated?  There are many stories and legends of the unexpected traveler being pixy-led and arriving home disheveled often following the revels of a village fair.  They would insist that the pixies were to blame for heading them from the path with their flickering lights resulting in them being lost or very late.
Well, that is what I feel like now that here in the USA we have Sprung forward an hour.  We are suppose to be enjoying an extra hour of sunlight but I am still waiting for the sun to show up for that too.  Here in the USA we are also out of step until others go through this stage.
So what does that mean?  For those of us planning on attending the Shylock Doll Gathering this Wednesday the 15th, please check your time zone as to not miss out on this fun gathering of dollmakers.  We are looking to explore the different ways (or the easy way) to make fingers for our characters.
The time is planned for 12:30 pm MST.  For those in the USA, it will move forward as planned.  For those in Italy or Australia (for example) you might need to confirm the time difference as we will be actually a hour earlier for you (or not...).   Hope this blurp gets past the pixies so that we can all get together - and don't forget to check our chat line for the link post.  See you there.
Also I'm glad this crazy time zone change happened after my Conversation with the Dollmaker for the month of March as I enjoyed my lovely time with Amanda Parkinson.  I am in the process of updating and editing that video and it will be out shortly.  Keep your eyes open as Amanda and I share our love of dollmaking through her art.

Conversation with Dollmaker...
Picture
I have traveled to England (via ZOOM) to spend some time with Renata Jansen and her lovely dolls.  Then the time flew by while I was in Italy (again via the magic of ZOOM) talking with Adelaide Santini.  These conversations have been very interesting to me especially as polymer is a medium I haven't delved in.  These ladies make it look easy but then that is the skill of a master - as one knows a lot of work goes into each creation.

Plus I am so excited as I have always wanted to visit Australia which I get to do as Amanda Parkinson is scheduled to talk to me in March.
If you have missed these conversations, join me and the IADR Dollmakers either here in the blog or on Youtube.  Here on the website you will see Conversations on the right side of the screen where the past blogs are archived.  To view on Youtube, click the link below:

Don't have a Clue!!!
Our Zoom meeting will be this Thurs Feb 23rd at 12:30 (Mountain Standard Time) for members of IADR who want to be inspired, maybe learn something new, or just meet another fellow dollmaker who shares our passion.

Keep your eyes open for the link in the IADR Members Only group and don't be a SHY-lock.  Come join us *smiling*.

Conversation with a Dollmaker - Adelaide Santini

Come with me as I go to Italy to have a conversation with Adelaide Santini about dolls.  I didn't even have to leave the comfort of my chair to have this delightful time with her.

Her fun sense of humor had us laughing more than once and I was able to experience the flavor of Italy as I listened to her enchanting accent.
After you have joined us for our enjoyable conversation, don't forget to check out her links to see her work and learn even more about her.  Also our conversation will be up soon on our Youtube channel.  So many ways to come join us.

I had the lovely opportunity to meet with Renata Jansen via Zoom and talk "dolls"  Can't get any better than that for a perfect day.  Drop in and see what got her started making dolls.
As yes, when dollmakers get together we can talk! *smiling*.  Thank goodness for editing so that I can share some of her best advice and artwork.  Don't forget to check out where you can find her at the end of the video.
Also these Conversation videos will be up shortly on the IADR Youtube channel of our own!  Yep, I started one up and already have the video of the last Juried show on there with these clips following soon.  Here is the link if you like to help get us started with subscribers *smiling.
