Concept: In 2021, I moved from the city center to the coast. Since then, I have volunteered to track sea turtle activity on my local beach, dedicated to protecting their nests. Having witnessed hundreds of hatchlings instinctively rushing toward the ocean, I am moved by the scientific reality that only one in a thousand will survive to adulthood.
With this sculpture, I imagine the Sea itself—personified as an elven creature—taking care of each tiny turtle. She sings a lullaby to comfort and nurture them, much like the volunteers and I have done during recent summers. My hope is to help them grow so that, in twenty years, they may return to nest once again on my shore.
