Norma
Norma Opera by Vincenzo Bellini The scene shows Norma as she sings “Casta Diva”, the most famous aria from Vincenzo Bellini’s opera. The story is set in ancient Gaul and tells the drama of a priestess torn between love and duty. In the aria “Casta Diva”, Norma prays to the moon for peace and harmony. This aria has become a universal symbol of bel canto and has been performed by great voices such as Maria Callas and Joan Sutherland.
Techniques and materials: The figure is 27 cm tall and is completely hand-sculpted in polymer clay and painted with Genesis oil paints. The hair is made of soft Tibetan wool, and the clothes are hand-dyed silk. The sculpted base is engraved with Celtic-Gallic inscriptions, giving an ancient, mystical feel. Scenic elements surround the figure and add to the sacred atmosphere. The floor is made of hand-cut and hand-finished wood, combined with a painted and decorated wooden structure, while the backdrop completes the theatrical scene.
