Pele is a fabric doll, constructed internally from aluminum wire and softer fills. She stands approximately 35"H x 20"W x 20"D without assistance. Her Merino wool hair is embroidered, as are her facial features. Pele's skin is cotton, and her fiery attire is cotton with silk trim. The design of her form and outfit is meant to represent fire, lava, volcanic rock, and black sand.
Pele is the Hawaiian Goddess of Fire, credited with the creation of the islands. She is shown here as a lovely young woman. She is well liked by natives, but her volatile emotions do sometimes erupt in the form of volcanos.
