Meet the nymph Phoebe, entirely hand modeled in October 2019 inside a Buddha nut. The real nut that she was modeled out of is a real "Buddha nut", the fruit of the Bodhi tree, an ancient sacred fig tree under which Siddhartha Gautama, later known as Buddha, attained bodhi (enlightenment).

According to Buddhist tradition, Siddhartha Gautama meditated under this tree, called Ashwattha, when he reached nirvana; the word 'Ashwattha' comes from the Sanskrit root shwa which means tomorrow, and tha which means "what is left". According to the Hindu philosopher Shankaracharya the name means "that which does not stay the same tomorrow", like the universe itself. The sacred fig, of which the Bodhi tree is a specimen, is sacred to Hindus, Jains and Buddhists. Bodhi indicates awakening, spiritual enlightenment, the way of seeing things that goes beyond appearances. Having been enlightened means being able to see the truth clearly and intelligently in everyday life, unhinging all forms of illusion and ignorance, which would tend to obscure understanding.
