Blue Bird of Happiness by Alena Cvetkovski

She was lying in bed. Though her eyes were closed she was fully awake. It's been raining for days. She didn't know what was making her so drowsy - sounds of rain or that nasty medication. She was tired, her heart was aching. She missed her daughter tremendously. She'd give anything just to hear her voice. But she understood: travel restriction, immigration papers. One day... Another hour passed. She opened her eyes to see where that noise is coming from. No, not noise, but a song! She looked towards the window. There it was! A small blue bird on the window sill was singing away. And the sunshine, the sunshine after all this rainy days made its feathers sparkle. Nurse Olga opened the door:"You have a visitor. May she come in?” P.S: Some believe the Blue bird is a symbol of joy and hope; others, that good news will be arriving soon. Others still think that Blue bird represents a connection between the living and those who have passed away.
