We Have Arrived!!!

It is a beautiful day in Florence, Italy as we arrived to begin our adventure at ths 90th anniversary of the MIDA event.  This event is to promote and educate through showcasing the many talented artists from Italy and around the world.
Luckily we met up with Anna Esposito and Maria D'Anna to have for helpers, as well as bringing my own family for setting up our booth.
Security was intense and we needed to show our passes just to get inside the Fortezza da Basso.  For those of us that are unfamilar with the Medici Fortress, it is the fortress of San Giovanni Battista or a.k.a. Fortezza da Basso where Renaissance and contemporary architecture comes together within the walls of Florence.
We got busy and started to unpack our dolls when Claudia Raddi showed up.  She was gracious enough to be our point of contact for those unable to attend but still wanted their dolls in the event. So glad we had this opportunity with her doing this!
Which meant more dolls to unpack. What a beautiful variety of mediums and styles the IADR has to offer through the talents of our artists from Fiber Arts to Sculpted Clay.

It is official, the International Art Doll Registry is ready now that we have our banner hung.

Here is a sneak peek into the booth.  Loredana Salvo, Elizabetta Bernardi, and Maria Ciobanu all came to help.  Things have been busy and steady at the booth.  Find out for yourself by stopping by and saying hello.  Otherwise we are happy to share our adventure with you by watching the video below.

Yeah!  The Glitch should now be fixed.  When you are on the IADR website and submitting for a juried show or your Artist's Studio page... and you were wondering if your submission went through, this image should now pop up telling you that your submission went through.
Actually the page will look more like the image below but the hearts were to get your attention and to let you know we appreciate your patience as we worked through this glitch. -- Now not to say it still doesn't hurt to contact me to give me a heads up when submitting.
But hopefully this will help take away some of the fustration and confusion. So when submitting, now look for this image. If you have any questions email me at [email protected].

Why should you care?  Well, if it is a new doll you wish to showcase, a tutorial you would like to share or even an article about an event you attended... all of those are free to post in the ART DOLLS Magazine.  That is FREE advertising to you!!
Go to the IADR website and when you see the ART DOLLS Magazine in the header, you will have the option to go directly to the magazine OR click on the "How to Submit" tab.
Then decide what you are submitting and click on appropriate form.  Here is the link to the new page for the forms for submitting to the ART DOLLS Magazine - https://www.international-art-doll-registry.com/how-to-submit.html.

Building Trust...

Building trust in a world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not easy.  With that in mind, what is the policy at ART DOLLS Magazine regarding AI?  It is this - AI is here to stay but it is only a Tool not the Answer.

First off, we need to know the difference between AI and programming.  Most graphic software uses some form of automation (to enhance sharpness, color, or movement). These are programs within the software designed for these purposes.  To add a twinkle in the eye or to smooth out a line drawing – that is programming.
AI is automation at a level of where you could tell the computer to make me an image of a person doing something and you could end up with a realistic image of someone drinking coffee and reading the newspaper.  The program made all of the decisions within the guidelines you established.
At ART DOLLS Magazine, AI will not be used to create realistic images of people, but may be used to enhance graphic images such as this heart warming puppy. (Do you know how hard it is to make a puppy sit still and how many pictures it would take to get the right look... let alone go find a puppy when you don't own one?)
We will not use AI in writing articles for the magazine and writers submitting an article must state that AI was not used to write the article or generate a doll image.
It also means when ART DOLLS Magazine publishes Updates, Posts, and in each issue of the ART DOLLS Magazine it does not use AI when using doll images or people.  There is no question of “is this AI or not?”  If it looks “real”, it is real.
Because of that, when it is time to get out information sometimes there needs to be a catchy image to go with it.  Then we use clip art and sometimes AI generated images but only when there is no doubt that the image was AI generated.  That is why the cartoonish graphic art look to the images.  It is intentional.  Just as the graphic art of “Tony, the Tiger” was created for Cornflakes and the three little chefs for Rice Krispies cereal created with computer software to make them move, AI may be used to catch your eye, but never to mislead you here at ART DOLLS Magazine.
In this world where it is going to be harder to know what is real and what isn’t, ART DOLLS Magazine doesn’t want to add to that confusion.  When people send in their images, we will use them.  We will use graphic programs for enhancements, such as removing backgrounds, but we will not generate “real looking” people or dolls for promotion or articles.  This is the trust we at ART DOLLS Magazine hope to build through understanding what it is real and true to the ART of communication.

Are You In...

Are you in the mood to be in Florence, Italy yet?  If not, this great post with Giusy Di Rocco's doll - La mia terra - My Land, might just make you wish to be there.

So yes, the ART DOLLS Magazine will be at the IADR Art Doll Convention May 8th - 10th and we will also be part of the 90th anniversary of MIDA.  MIDA is a huge festival in Florence that promotes the creativity and artistry in Italy and around the world.
Why was the International Art Doll Registry was accepted at MIDA?  It is because we too help in promoting artistry from around the world.
If you aren't going to be at the Art Doll Convention or MIDA, how does this help you?  As I said, the IADR will be promoting the doll artist's that will be there.  Part of that promotion includes having QR codes next to their dolls.  Those QR codes will be directing potential buyers and interested people back to the IADR Artist's Studio pages.
It has been proven every time we attract people to the IADR Artist's Studio page, people never look at just one artist.  So, even if you can't be at the Art Doll Convention or MIDA, you can still be seen through your own Artist's Studio page.

Is your page updated with your latest creation?  Now is the time to do it before our April-May activities. There is the Artist's Submission form on the member's only side of the website for your use.  Also if you wish to add or update a doll already on your Artist's Page, just contact me at [email protected].

Also these cool bookmarkers designed by Anna Esposito will be handed out promoting our IADR Art Doll Convention.  English on one side - Italian on the other side.  Thank you to Patriza Cozzo and Maria D'Anna for their contributions too.

This year's May Juried Show is an in-person event at the convention (where the doll must be present) with the theme being Myths and Legends.  Non-members can participate with a small fee. This event is open to Sculpted art and Fiber art.  Come join us at the Hotel Albani Firenze for a fabulous evening of food, festivity, and art.

Lets welcome Margaret Aslanis Nystrom to the IADR.  She is a mixed medium of wood and porcelain doll artist from North Carolina here in the USA.

We can’t wait to see your beautiful dolls and creations!
